James leads Michigan GOP governor primary, poll shows

A new poll from Glengariff Group Inc. shows U.S. Rep. John James leading the Republican field in Michigan’s gubernatorial primary with 37% support, the firm reported Tuesday.

Businessman Perry Johnson trailed James with 19.8% backing in the survey of likely GOP primary voters, Glengariff Group Inc. said.

The poll was described by Glengariff Group Inc. as new polling data for the race among likely Republican primary voters in Michigan.

James represents Michigan in the U.S. House. Johnson is a businessman. Both are competing in the Republican primary for governor, according to Glengariff Group Inc.
