Report: China’s flood death toll remains unclear a week after disaster

One week after deadly floods, little is known about the number of people dead or missing in China, the report said.

The report said China’s control over media and digital censorship has limited public information about the disaster. It contrasted that approach with reporting in Nepal.

According to the report, Nepali officials and media have identified those killed and provided more detailed coverage of the floods and their aftermath.

The report raised questions about how information is collected and shared in China following major disasters, the account said. An accompanying photograph was credited to Dar Yasin.
