Decision Desk HQ projected Tuesday that Gov. Larry Rhoden defeated businessman Toby Doeden in the Republican primary runoff for governor of South Dakota, the outlet reported.
Rhoden will now face Democrat Dan Ahlers, a former state senator, in the Nov. 5 general election, according to the projection.
South Dakota has a history of supporting Republican candidates in statewide races, making a Democratic takeover less likely in the fall contest.
No further official results or statements about the runoff were immediately available from the candidates’ campaigns, Decision Desk HQ said.
