Rodent infestation prompts Angel Stadium concession stand shutdown

Health officials shut down a concession stand at Angel Stadium after discovering a rodent infestation, according to inspection reports released this week. The inspection found droppings in five locations around the concession area and a ceiling hole larger than a quarter inch, which allowed rodents to move freely between the rafters and food stations, officials said.

The shutdown occurred on April 22 during a homestand against the Toronto Blue Jays, which the Angels won 7-3. Orange County Public Health Services identified the problem, citing uninvited rodents as the cause of the contamination. The stadium’s age and structural issues reportedly contributed to the infestation.

Angel Stadium, the fourth-oldest ballpark in Major League Baseball, has faced ongoing maintenance challenges. Officials have yet to address the holes in the ceiling, which have allowed pests to access food areas, or fix issues with the team’s lineup, according to reports.

The incident highlights the stadium’s deteriorating condition amid the team’s struggles on the field. While players continue to face pitching woes, health inspectors have prioritized sanitation and safety concerns. Fans heading to the Big A are advised to be cautious about concessions until repairs are completed, officials said.
