Sen. John Kennedy, R-La., posted a one-minute video to X on Friday introducing “Margaret,” his elliptical trainer, while wearing a red bandanna and speaking from his Louisiana carport, he said in the clip.
“Hey X, I have somebody I’d like you to meet,” Kennedy says in the video. “This is Margaret. Margaret is my elliptical trainer. I named Margaret after Margaret Thatcher because both kick butt and take names,” he adds.
Kennedy said the machine stays under the carport because it is too heavy to move, his wife “won’t let” him bring it inside, and because he likes to work out during Louisiana summers. “After Margaret kicks my butt, I look for air conditioning,” he said.
The clip drew thousands of reactions, with users on X roasting Kennedy’s bandanna and praising his everyman delivery. “You are rocking the dadgum crap outta that bandana,” one user wrote. “You are a gem to us normal folk Mr. Kennedy. Live long and prosper!” another wrote.
Kennedy has long cultivated a folksy, humorous public image on social media, often delivering colorful one-liners and unconventional moments. He closed the video by saying, “My work here is done,” and, “And I can see myself out.”
