Rubio jokes about Pop-Tarts as he dismisses Kennedy’s diet on podcast
Senator Marco Rubio joked about his fondness for Pop-Tarts while dismissing Robert F. Kennedy Jr.’s reported diet during an interview on “The Katie Miller Podcast” Tuesday. Rubio, appearing with his wife, Jeanette, called Kennedy’s diet of “red meat and fermented vegetables” “crazy,” saying it was not sustainable.
“This is a diet that consists of eating sauerkraut and meat. Now you understand, like, this is not a sustainable thing … He has to travel with coolers of sauerkraut! I’m not going to travel the world with a cooler full of sauerkraut. It’s ridiculous. I can’t do it,” Rubio said.
Rubio clarified that he supports Kennedy’s “Make America Healthy Again” movement, though his wife pushed back, noting that Rubio eats Pop-Tarts. “No, I don’t eat Pop-Tarts every day,” Rubio said. “You eat sweets,” Jeanette replied. Rubio joked that Pop-Tarts are “one of the great American innovations in the history of the world,” praising their packaging. His wife countered that Rubio eats “all the things you should not be eating. Like every single thing.”
Requests for comment to the Department of Health and Human Services and Pop-Tarts’ owner, Mars Inc., were not immediately returned. Rubio has been considered a potential 2028 presidential candidate. He recently polled only 10 points behind Vice President JD Vance in New Hampshire in a hypothetical matchup.
Rubio also addressed a viral meme showing him sitting on an Oval Office couch during a 2025 meeting with Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy. In an interview last month, he said he initially disliked the photo, which made him look like he was sinking into the couch, but later found it amusing. “That stuff is funny,” he said, noting that White House aide Dan Scavino created a humorous meme board featuring him.
