Los Angeles Dodgers pitcher Tarik Skubal has responded to criticism over his trade from the Detroit Tigers, saying teams have the right to pursue success without blame. Speaking to reporters Monday while on the road, Skubal dismissed claims that the Dodgers are harming the sport.
“Every team could trade for me,” Skubal said. “I don’t sympathize with people that blame the Dodgers for anything they’ve done. It’s a winning organization. I really don’t sympathize with people that are complaining because the Dodgers do all the right things.”
Skubal, who won back-to-back American League Cy Young Awards in 2024 and 2025, arrives in Los Angeles with a 2.79 ERA and 116 strikeouts through 16 starts this season. After watching Sunday’s game from the Dodgers’ dugout at Dodger Stadium, he is expected to make his debut Tuesday against the Chicago Cubs at Wrigley Field.
The pitcher’s comments highlight ongoing debates in baseball about the league’s competitiveness and the calls for a salary cap. Critics argue that a cap would limit spending, but Skubal contends that it would not help struggling teams improve.
