Hardeman County Master Gardeners Plan Busy November
The Hardeman County Master Gardeners are heading into one of their busiest months of the year. After a hands-on floral workshop at their latest meeting, the volunteer gardening group has lined up an arboretum tour, its annual banquet, school visits and a community landscaping project for November, Hatchie Press reported Thursday, Nov. 5.
Bill’s Flowers Leads Hands-On Workshop
The group’s most recent monthly meeting featured Lisa Pulse of Bill’s Flowers, who set up a flower bar for members to work from. Participants built their own floral arrangements, picked up new techniques and practiced making bows during what Hatchie Press described as an evening of creativity and fellowship.
Hardeman County Master Gardeners November Calendar
Here is what the group has planned for the rest of the month:
- Nov. 9: Last day to buy tickets for the Master Gardener Banquet
- Nov. 11: Members tour the LaGrange Arboretum
- Nov. 17: Master Gardener Banquet
- Nov. 30: Members help clean up and spruce up the landscaping at the Little Courthouse
- Throughout November: Visits to local schools for Tennessee Agriculture Literacy Week
Anyone planning to attend the banquet should note the Nov. 9 ticket deadline, which falls more than a week before the event.
Teaching Students About Agriculture
The school visits are tied to Tennessee Agriculture Literacy Week. Master Gardeners will use the visits to talk with students about the importance of agriculture, a fitting message in a county where farming and forestry remain a big part of daily life.
The Nov. 30 project at the Little Courthouse is the kind of hands-on community work the group is known for. Master Gardener volunteers complete horticulture training through the UT/TSU Extension program and then give back volunteer hours through projects like landscaping public spaces and helping with education programs.
About the Master Gardener Program
The Master Gardener program trains home gardeners in horticulture and then puts that knowledge to work in the community. Volunteers help with demonstration gardens, answer neighbors’ plant questions and support beautification projects like the one planned at the Little Courthouse. Social events such as the monthly meetings and the annual banquet help keep members connected between projects.
