Why school festivals matter
PTO events like this one usually help pay for classroom supplies, field trips and other extras that school budgets don’t always cover. Silent auctions in particular depend on local businesses and families donating items, and on neighbors showing up to bid. Buying a bowl of chili or a treat from the sweet shop is another simple way for parents and neighbors to support Middleton Elementary students, even without winning an auction item.
The festival lands one week before Halloween, so it’s an easy way for younger kids to enjoy a haunted house and treats in a safe, familiar setting. It is one of several community events on the Hardeman County Chamber of Commerce calendar that Saturday; the Chamber also lists an ElevateHER clothing drive from 2 to 4 p.m. on Oct. 24, and a Grand Junction Trunk or Treat on Halloween, Oct. 31. Families coming from Walnut and other parts of northern Tippah County are only a short drive from Middleton.
