Walnut Sets Sweet Treats on Main for Halloween Night
Downtown Walnut is gearing up for another family night out. The Town of Walnut announced Friday that Sweet Treats on Main will take over Main Street on Halloween, Saturday, Oct. 31, starting at 6 p.m., and town leaders are now looking for people to help hand out candy.
The announcement came in a post on the town’s official Facebook page, which said the town is already looking ahead after a well-attended Movie Night on Main last month. “Everyone is welcome,” the event flyer says.
How Sweet Treats on Main Works
The event is a trunk-or-treat style evening for local trick-or-treaters. Instead of going door to door, children can walk Main Street and collect candy from decorated vehicles, tents and tables set up by local groups and families.
- What: Sweet Treats on Main, a community Halloween candy event
- When: Saturday, Oct. 31, beginning at 6 p.m.
- Where: Main Street in downtown Walnut
- Who: Open to everyone
Businesses, Churches and Families Invited to Take Part
The town is asking businesses, churches, organizations, families and other community members to sign up to decorate a trunk, put up a tent or set up a table and pass out candy. The flyer calls on participants to help “make Main Street the sweetest spot in town once again this Halloween.”
Anyone who wants to participate should call Walnut Town Hall at 662-223-4405 to be added to the list. Signing up early helps organizers plan the layout along Main Street.
Another Night on Main Street
Sweet Treats on Main is the latest in a run of downtown events the town has organized this fall. In its announcement, the town said its first Movie Night on Main was a success and thanked everyone who came out. That event drew families to Main Street in late September, and Sweet Treats on Main gives the community another reason to gather downtown.
Halloween falls on a Saturday this year, so families who come to Main Street can make it part of a full evening of trick-or-treating. Parents are encouraged to keep an eye on children near traffic, carry a flashlight and check treats before little ones dig in.
