Tippah County sports roundup, Sept. 19, 2026: BMCU sweeps conference volleyball opener

Blue Mountain Christian opened Southern States Athletic Conference volleyball play with a three-set sweep of Andrew College on Thursday at Tyler Gymnasium, winning 25–18, 25–7 and 25–19.

The Toppers hit .341 with 41 kills while limiting Andrew to 17 kills and a .000 hitting percentage, according to Jon Myers’s report on TippahSports.com.

Velez, Gerleman lead the attack

Valeria Velez and Marissa Gerleman finished with 10 kills apiece, and Salice Speed added nine. Velez also served four aces, the match high, as Blue Mountain totaled nine.

The decisive second set featured a strong defensive effort: Andrew managed only two kills and hit minus-.167. Blue Mountain closed the match with 15 kills in the third set.

Brenyn Wilbanks led the Toppers with 18 assists, while Sydney Tague had nine. Abbi Williams and Speed each collected nine digs. Olivia Lewis and Mattie Hopper contributed four blocks apiece.

Next on the schedule

Blue Mountain is scheduled to face Faulkner University on Saturday in another SSAC match.
