Tippah County sports roundup, Sept. 27, 2026: Walnut wins county title; BMCU sweeps Topper Trails
Walnut swept three county rivals Saturday to win its third straight Tippah County volleyball championship, while Blue Mountain Christian won both college races at the Topper Trails Classic, according to reports by Jon Myers for Tippah County Sports.
Walnut takes county volleyball title
Walnut beat Ripley, Falkner and host Pine Grove without dropping a set in the Sept. 26 round robin. The Lady Wildcats finished 3–0, improved to 26–4 and extended their winning streak to seven matches. Senior Molly-Kate Rolison received Tippah County Sports’ tournament MVP honor. Pine Grove swept Ripley before losing to Walnut in the final match; Ripley opened with a 2–1 win over Falkner. Walnut hosts Ripley at 6 p.m. Monday, Sept. 28. BMCU wins both Topper Trails college races
Blue Mountain Christian’s women scored a perfect 15 points, taking the first five places in the 5K. Ella Shepherd won in 20:26.6, followed by Kaedyn Wilson in 20:30.8. Delta State was second with 40 points. Read Myers’ women’s cross-country report.
The BMCU men won with 17 points and four runners in the top four. Lukas Dykes took the individual title in 28:10.1, ahead of teammate Jonah Barnhardt in 28:31.4. Tougaloo was second with 52 points. Read Myers’ men’s cross-country report.
Toppers fall in volleyball and soccer
BMCU volleyball lost 25–18, 25–17, 25–22 at Xavier University of Louisiana on Saturday. Marissa Gerleman led the Toppers with eight kills, and Abbi Williams had 14 digs. BMCU is scheduled to host William Carey on Friday. Read Myers’ volleyball report.
In men’s soccer, UT-Southern beat BMCU 2–1. The Firehawks scored twice before halftime; Erick Braga scored for the Toppers in the 81st minute on a Davi Rainato assist. BMCU is scheduled to visit Brewton-Parker on Thursday. Read Myers’ soccer report.
