Vehicle accident in Ripley turns violent and leads to stolen vehicle, attempted murder
A vehicle accident in Tippah County on September 6th led to a stolen vehicle, gunfire and one person being arrested.
According to first responders, a vehicle accident in the Buena Vista community turned violent. When first responders came to the scene, the individual involved in the accident opened fire on them and stole a vehicle.
A pursuit ensued and one man was arrested according to Tippah County Jail records.
That man has been identified as Roy Richardson, a 41 year old Tippah County resident. He is listed as a white male, 6′ tall weighing 165 pounds.
The chain of events began when Richardson was involved in a car accident on Old Highway 15 in Ripley the day before his arrest. A volunteer firefighter, whose identity remains undisclosed, pulled over to provide assistance. The firefighter’s wife also stopped in a second vehicle to help. According to Tippah County officials the situation made a turn when Richardson produced a firearm, threatening to harm the firefighter and his wife.
In a brazen act, Richardson then forcibly commandeered the firefighter’s vehicle. As Richardson fled the scene in the stolen vehicle, the second vehicle, occupied by the firefighter’s wife, took chase. During the pursuit, Richardson allegedly opened fire on both the pursuing vehicle and even a completely unrelated third vehicle, putting innocent lives at risk.
This reckless and dangerous sequence of events led to Richardson facing a total of eight counts of attempted murder. Authorities swiftly apprehended him and booked him into the Tippah County jail.
Richardson was booked into the Tippah County jail on Wednesday September 6th. Bond was denied.
