It has been quite a week for Walnut High School senior Vivian Brown. The multi-sport athlete was named to the Tippah County volleyball all-tournament team, was named Miss Walnut High School, and was crowned the school’s last-ever homecoming queen on Friday, Oct. 2, the same night the Wildcats beat Ashland in their final homecoming game.
The good news was shared by the Our Mississippi Home Facebook page, which highlighted the string of honors for the Walnut senior.
A Long List of Senior Honors
Besides the homecoming crown and the Miss Walnut High School title, Brown’s classmates voted her into several senior superlatives. According to the post, she was voted:
Most Likely to Succeed
Most Intellectual
Most Dependable
Most Athletic
Best All Around
Most Beautiful
Walnut’s Last Homecoming Queen Leads a Winning Team
Brown is also part of one of the area’s most successful volleyball programs. Walnut won its seventh straight district title this fall, going 8-0 in district play, and opened the Class 2A playoffs on Saturday, Oct. 3, with a 3-0 sweep of Leland, according to Tippah Sports. The win was the Wildcats’ 10th straight and lifted them to 29-4.
Walnut is set to face East Webster in the next round on Tuesday, Oct. 6, with a listed 6 p.m. start.
The End of an Era at Walnut
The title of last homecoming queen carries extra meaning this year. Walnut and Falkner high schools are scheduled to merge into a new North Tippah High School, housed at Walnut Attendance Center, after the 2026-27 school year. That makes this fall’s homecoming court the last to represent Walnut High School by name.
For a community that has rallied around its Wildcats for generations, Brown’s week gave students, families, and alumni one more reason to celebrate.
Congratulations to Vivian, and good luck to the Walnut volleyball team in the playoffs.
