Brown & Covington Opens in Downtown Ripley
Brown & Covington, a new downtown Ripley shop that pairs local handmade goods with creative workshops and gelato, opened its doors today, Sunday, Nov. 1. Ripley Main Street announced the opening this morning, calling Brown & Covington “a Ripley Main Street shop” and inviting the public to stop by during this afternoon’s Holiday Open House.
Brown & Covington Opens at 301 S. Commerce Street
The new store is located at 301 S. Commerce Street in downtown Ripley. Its Facebook page describes the business as a place for “local art, handmade goods, creative workshops & gelato,” and the shop’s tagline sums it up in three words: “Makers. Gelato. Good Company.”
In its opening-day post, Ripley Main Street encouraged shoppers to come see what has been in the works, browse items from local makers and try the gelato. Opening day lines up with the Ripley Holiday Open House, which runs from noon to 4 p.m. today in downtown Ripley and at businesses around town.
A Space for Local Makers
Ahead of the opening, Ripley Main Street shared a preview of the project, saying the goal was to create a place downtown where people can shop local handmade goods, try something creative, enjoy gelato and spend time together. The organization said it looked forward to introducing the shop’s artisans and welcoming visitors inside, using the slogan “Made Here. Shared Here.”
The storefront has been refreshed for the launch. Photos posted by the shop show a white-painted brick building with sage green double doors, large display windows, script lettering across the front and holiday greenery and wreaths framing the entrance. Ripley-area contractor Home Pros said on social media that it was glad to have worked for Ripley Main Street on the Brown & Covington project, describing it as “a great shop with an even GREATER mission.”

Part of a Busy Season Downtown
The opening adds another stop to a busy stretch for downtown Ripley. Ripley Main Street, a nonprofit that works to renovate, revitalize and restore the city’s historic downtown district, hosted the Spirit of Ripley festival on Oct. 30 and is holding today’s Holiday Open House, with pop-up vendors set up inside the Golden Bee because of the weather. Organizers have urged residents to shop local as the holiday season begins.
