The National Weather Service warned Sunday that parts of Mississippi face a marginal threat for severe weather, with storms capable of producing damaging winds up to 60 mph and quarter-size hail.

The Mississippi Department of Public Safety said its offices, including all Driver Service Bureaus, will be closed Monday, April 27, 2026, in observance of Confederate Memorial Day. The department said offices will reopen Tuesday.

An ongoing storm affected Calhoun County as WoFS highlighted two areas where initial supercells could form. WoFS advised residents to stay weather aware this afternoon through tonight.

Blue Mountain Christian University’s Student Body Association said Ayla Stowe won the 2026 Crowned in Grace pageant on Friday, April 24. The association named London McAdams first alternate and Macy Bain second alternate.

Both directions of the Old Byram Road bridge over I-55 in Hinds County will be closed starting April 27 for bridge repairs, lasting until June 8.

The Mississippi Department of Transportation said it held its annual Equipment Operators Roadeo for District 2 at the district headquarters in Batesville on April 16, giving operators a chance to demonstrate vehicle-handling and heavy-equipment skills.

Summit organizers said the event will bring public safety officials and leaders from across Mississippi together May 19-22 for networking, idea-sharing and training. Registration is free.
