A computer weather model simulation shows a marginal (level 1 of 5) severe-weather threat today, with storm clusters expected late this afternoon into the evening and primary risks of large hail and damaging winds, according to the simulation.

Forecasters say a slight risk for severe storms is in place today for areas west of the Mississippi River, with large hail and damaging winds the main threats. They added that a tornado cannot be ruled out but confidence in one occurring is low.

Capitol Police said officers took part in the Junior League of Jackson’s Resiliency project at Methodist Children’s Home, meeting with students and offering safety tips to build awareness and confidence.
