Mississippi DOT urges safe driving after Fourth of July events

The Mississippi Department of Transportation on July 4 urged motorists to drive cautiously as Fourth of July fireworks and concerts end across the state, the agency said.

MDOT celebrated winners of its Star-Spangled Sign contest as part of America250 Mississippi and warned that roads would be busy as people returned from events, the department said.

The agency told drivers to watch for pedestrians, cyclists and turning vehicles and to avoid distractions. MDOT urged motorists to “Buckle up, slow down, put the phone away, and watch for pedestrians,” the statement said.

MDOT and America250 Mississippi wished residents a safe Independence Day and encouraged safe travel, the department said.
