Shavon McWilliams returns to classroom after 30 years, earns diploma and pursues bachelor’s, college says
Thirty years after leaving high school, Shavon McWilliams returned to a classroom to earn her high school equivalency diploma through Northeast Mississippi Community College’s Adult Education program, the college said.
The college said the experience gave McWilliams the confidence to pursue a college degree. She earned a spot on the Vice President’s List, graduated from the college and is now working toward a bachelor’s degree, the college said.
Northeast Mississippi Community College said McWilliams’ story illustrates the impact of adult education. The college said the program opens doors, creates opportunities and helps students build futures they might once have thought out of reach.
The college said McWilliams is proof that it is never too late to start again and that one step through adult education can change everything.
