Brown & Covington creative space planned across from The Cut-Off

Project organizers said they are converting a building across from The Cut-Off into a community creative space called Brown & Covington, with plans to be fully operating later this year.

Organizers said the name honors Mrs. Brown’s Corner Store, a longtime Ripley landmark, and Tommy Covington, whom they described as the town historian and a longtime librarian who left the building to Ripley Main Street.

They said the space will host local artisans and offer pottery classes for people of all abilities. Organizers said they have already begun work on a first pottery collection and plan to expand into other creative activities over time. They also said they intend to serve soft-serve ice cream in handmade bowls.

Organizers said the project received partial support through grants from the Mississippi Main Street Association and the Mississippi Hills National Heritage Area. They also thanked the Compton Center for its assistance with the project.

Organizers invited volunteers, creators and supporters to get involved and asked interested parties to send a message or comment to learn more.
