Feds launch crackdown on Medicaid fraud nationwide
The Biden administration announced a federal crackdown on Medicaid fraud, aiming to ensure proper use of taxpayer dollars. The effort follows recent findings of improper payments and misuse of funds across the country, according to officials.
Among the findings are over $600,000 in improper payments made on behalf of deceased Mississippians, the administration said. Additionally, between 5% and 7% of Medicaid dollars annually are going to individuals who earn too much to qualify for the program. One example cited was a couple living in a home valued at more than $1.3 million, yet still enrolled in Medicaid.
The administration also reported that more than $10.5 million was spent over three years on healthcare for illegal immigrants. Officials emphasized that Medicaid fraud is a nationwide issue and urged states to strengthen oversight to ensure funds are used appropriately.
The initiative aims to improve accountability and prevent wasteful spending by cracking down on fraudulent claims and improper enrollments across all states.
