Heat advisory in effect for areas along, west of Mississippi River

A Heat Advisory remains in effect for areas along and west of the Mississippi River, where heat indices are expected to exceed 105 degrees this afternoon, the National Weather Service in Memphis, Tennessee, said.

The agency said heat will worsen through midweek, with heat indices nearing or exceeding 110 degrees. It said Heat Advisories will likely be extended and could be upgraded to Extreme Heat Warnings.

The National Weather Service urged people to use caution if they must be outside this week, saying heat illness often sets in before symptoms become obvious.

The office provided a safety resource at https://www.weather.gov/safety/heat for tips and guidance, it said.
