Hurricane season begins; MEMA urges residents to prepare

Hurricane season begins June 1 and runs through Nov. 30, and MEMA Executive Director Stephen McCraney urged residents to prepare now before storms enter the Gulf.

McCraney outlined basic steps residents should take, including building an emergency kit, knowing their evacuation zone and staying informed, according to a message from the agency.

He said small steps taken now can make a big difference later, and encouraged families to review preparedness plans and supplies.

The agency also urged residents to download the MEMA app and visit MSEMA.org for tips and resources, according to the message from MEMA.
