MDOT urges Gulf Coast preparedness as 2026 hurricane season begins
June 1 marks the start of the 2026 Atlantic hurricane season, the Mississippi Department of Transportation said. The agency urged South Mississippi residents, businesses and community organizations to have a preparedness plan in place before storms threaten the Gulf Coast.
MDOT said it is offering free resources at GoMDOT.com/Hurricanes, including a new 2026 Hurricane Evacuation Guide and additional tools to help residents prepare. The agency provided a shortened link for more information at https://bit.ly/43MkAKp.
MDOT told residents the materials are available at no cost and encouraged people to download the evacuation guide ahead of any storm threats. The agency said the resources are intended to help Gulf Coast communities plan and respond.
Officials did not provide further details in the announcement, but directed people to the MDOT website for the full set of preparedness materials, the agency said.
