IRS extends Mississippi tax deadlines to June 8 after winter storm

The IRS announced tax relief for Mississippi taxpayers affected by Winter Storm Fern on Jan. 23, 2026, and Mississippi officials said the state will follow the federal extension, postponing various tax deadlines to June 8, 2026.

Officials said taxpayers who live or have a business in Mississippi have until June 8, 2026, to file and pay individual income tax returns, corporate income and franchise tax returns, pass-through entity tax returns and quarterly estimated payments that were originally due during the affected period.

State officials said any disaster-area taxpayer who receives a penalty notice should call 601-923-7700 to seek abatement. They said they also will work with taxpayers who live elsewhere but whose books, records or tax professionals are located in the disaster areas.

The officials warned that the extension does not automatically apply to other tax types or to payments on prior liabilities. They said relief for those circumstances may be granted on a case-by-case basis and urged impacted taxpayers to contact 601-923-7700 for assistance.
