FEMA says residents in 36 Mississippi counties may qualify for winter storm aid

The Federal Emergency Management Agency said residents in 36 Mississippi counties affected by the Jan. 23–27 winter storms (DR-4899) may be eligible for FEMA Individual Assistance.

FEMA said people can apply online at DisasterAssistance.gov, by calling 800-621-3362, or through the FEMA app, which is available for free download.

FEMA listed basic eligibility requirements as U.S. citizenship or qualified legal status; identity verification such as a Social Security number or other accepted documents; proof of home ownership or occupancy; and unmet needs not covered by insurance.

FEMA urged residents whose homes or property were affected to apply for assistance, saying those who qualify may receive support to address recovery needs.
