MDOT contractors to remove Winter Storm Fern debris by Aug. 5

Contractors for the Mississippi Department of Transportation will begin removing debris left by Winter Storm Fern, the agency said. The work must be completed no later than Wednesday, Aug. 5, MDOT said.

MDOT said crews will remove piles of debris along interstates and highways in north Mississippi and portions of the Mississippi Delta.

For reimbursement purposes, MDOT said it was required to advertise and award a debris-evaluation contract before removing large amounts of debris. The agency said contracts for both the evaluation and removal were advertised in accordance with state procurement law, which specifies certain advertising periods and procedures.

MDOT warned that, because the project covers a large geographic area, residents may not see contractors even while crews are actively working, the agency said.
