Mississippi agency warns of likely flooding from Potential Tropical Cyclone One

The Mississippi Emergency Management Agency (MEMA) said it is monitoring Potential Tropical Cyclone One, which is forecast to bring heavy rainfall to the state beginning late Wednesday, June 17, 2026, into Thursday, June 18, 2026. Widespread flooding is likely, MEMA said.

MEMA warned that roads could be closed or washed out and that structures could flood. The agency said Mississippi could also see damaging wind gusts and brief, weak tornadoes.

MEMA said it is filling requests for sandbags from multiple counties as it prepares for the storm.

The agency urged residents to stay weather aware, know where to go in case of evacuation, identify alternate routes in case of flooded roads and follow the “Turn Around, Don’t Drown” guidance, MEMA said.
