Mississippi agency warns of severe weather, flooding

The Mississippi Emergency Management Agency warned Wednesday that portions of the state are expected to experience severe weather, including heavy rain and flooding, today and into the evening, according to a memo posted by the agency.

MEMA urged motorists to use extreme caution if they must drive in affected areas and reiterated the safety message, “Turn Around, Don’t Drown,” if they encounter a flooded roadway, the agency said.

The agency said it has received an influx of messages and cannot respond to everyone. For the same road-condition information MEMA has, it directed residents to the Mississippi Department of Transportation’s MDOT Traffic app, available on the App Store and Google Play, or to MDOTtraffic.com.

MEMA included the hashtag #TropicalStormArthur in its post, tying the advisory to the storm, the agency’s message showed.
