Mississippi DOT seeks final entries for Star-Spangled highway sign contest

The Mississippi Department of Transportation is accepting final entries for a Star-Spangled Digital Message Sign contest, MDOT said Thursday. The agency said June 15 is the deadline to submit traffic-safety messages that will appear on highway signs across the state from July 1-5.

MDOT said the contest is part of America250 celebrations marking the nation’s 250th anniversary. The agency said messages must relate to traffic safety and that signs can display three lines of text, with a maximum of 21 characters per line, including spaces.

MDOT said hashtags, phone numbers and website addresses are not allowed. The agency also advised entrants to avoid symbols, uncommon abbreviations and emoji.

MDOT asked people to submit last-minute entries in the comments section of its announcement, the agency said. The department referred to the contest as the Star-Spangled DMS Contest on its social channels.
