Mississippi DOT to pause nonemergency lane closures for July 4 weekend

The Mississippi Department of Transportation (MDOT) said it will pause nonemergency lane closures from July 3 through July 5 to ease travel during the Independence Day holiday.

MDOT said crews and contractors will halt all nonemergency lane closures during that period.

The agency said the move is intended to reduce holiday travel delays as Mississippi marks America250 and the Fourth of July.

MDOT warned that some lane closures will remain in place for safety and urged drivers to slow down and treat any work zones they encounter as active.
