Mississippi DOT urges sober driving ahead of Fourth of July
The Mississippi Department of Transportation urged motorists to plan for sober driving during Fourth of July celebrations, saying the holiday is often among the deadliest because of drunk-driving-related crashes, the agency said.
MDOT advised drivers to arrange a sober driver before drinking. The agency told motorists to call a sober friend, taxi or other transportation service if they have been drinking and to contact law enforcement if they see a suspected drunk driver.
MDOT also urged people to take the keys from anyone about to drive under the influence and help them make other arrangements to get home, the agency said. The department included a link for more tips and travel information: https://bit.ly/4pjOsYV.
The tips were posted on MDOT social media with hashtags including #FourthOfJuly, #America250MS, #DriveSober and #DriveSmartMS, the department said, urging motorists to follow the guidance to help keep roads safer during the holiday.
