Mississippi invests over $550 million in transportation projects from lottery proceeds

Mississippi has invested more than $550 million from lottery proceeds into transportation projects since 2018, according to the Mississippi Department of Transportation.

Since the passage of the Alyce G. Clarke Mississippi Lottery Law in a 2018 special session, the funds have supported more than 250 transportation projects and upgraded over 3,100 miles of two-lane roads across the state.

Legislators recently made the annual $80 million allocation from lottery proceeds for transportation infrastructure permanent, removing the sunset clause that previously limited funding. This move ensures continued investment in road improvements, MDOT officials said.

One project nearing completion in Oktibbeha County involves a mill-and-overlay of 10 miles of State Route 389 from U.S. 82 to the Clay County line. The project is expected to finish by the end of summer, thanks to lottery funding.

MDOT expressed gratitude for the ongoing support, emphasizing that improved roads benefit all Mississippians. Officials encouraged residents to stay tuned for more upcoming projects funded by lottery proceeds.
