Mississippi man sentenced to life for infant’s 2023 death

Gabriel Girner, 24, of Sardis, Mississippi, pleaded guilty to first-degree murder and was sentenced to life in prison Tuesday in the Circuit Court of Alcorn County, the office of District Attorney Jason D. Herring said.

Circuit Judge Michael P. Mills Jr. accepted the plea, the release said. Under Mississippi law, defendants sentenced to life for first-degree murder are not eligible for parole, the release added.

The charge stemmed from an investigation by the Corinth Police Department into the June 14, 2023, death of three-month-old Ivana Rose Girner, the district attorney’s office said. Detective Jerry Rogers served as the lead investigator, the release said.

The case was prosecuted by District Attorney Jason D. Herring and assistant district attorneys Kyle Robbins and Clay Cummings on behalf of the State of Mississippi, the release said.
