Mississippi opens medical examiner’s office in Oxford

The Mississippi Department of Public Safety opened a new Medical Examiner’s Office in Oxford, the department said.

The office is expected to become fully operational later this year, the department said, and the opening represents the culmination of years of planning, leadership and collaboration.

The department thanked the Medical Examiner’s Office in Pearl for its years of service to North Mississippi and said the Oxford office will place medical examiner services closer to victims’ families, coroners, law enforcement and prosecutors.

Officials said they hope the closer proximity will help families receive answers more quickly, streamline investigations and improve the timely administration of justice. The department also thanked Commissioner Sean Tindell for his leadership and credited many individuals, agencies and partners whose work made the opening possible, saying the investment is a significant step forward for North Mississippi.
