WAPT News executive warns of dangers from unsecured loads on Mississippi highways
Peter Keith, president and general manager of 16 WAPT News, urged drivers to secure loads on Mississippi highways in a recent editorial, saying unsecured cargo can create dangerous debris, the editorial said.
The editorial cited examples including shredded tires, flying lumber and furniture bouncing across lanes. It said those hazards put motorists at risk and create eyesores.
The editorial also said unsecured loads force Mississippi Department of Transportation crews to respond to debris, diverting them from pothole repairs and routine maintenance.
It urged motorists to secure their loads and noted that securing cargo is required by law, the editorial said.
