Aberdeen shuts down Main Street for second Blue and White Festival

Aberdeen closed Main Street Friday and Saturday for the second annual Blue and White Festival, WCBI reported. The two-day event included a kid zone, food vendors and arts and crafts, the station said.

Friday’s program featured a gospel night with the Payne Chapel Male Choir, Aberdeen First Pentecostal and Demarrio Brown and Connected, WCBI reported. Saturday’s lineup included a blues show with Souls of Blues, Seeking Seven and Super Chikan, and headliners southern soul artist EJ Jones and Marcellus the Singer, the station said.

Organizers honored community members during the festival. WCBI identified this year’s honorees as Leomia Boyd, Seeking Seven, The Gospel Sons and The Crossroad Band.

Alderwoman Rhonda Robinson told WCBI that she and Alderman Jeremy Bell proposed bringing a festival back to downtown Main Street. “Blue and White Festival was established last year. It was our first one as elected official me and my fellow alderman Jeremy Bell. We came up with the ideal to bring a festival back to downtown Main Street,” Robinson said, according to WCBI. She said the event gives residents something to look forward to and helps Aberdeen’s economy, the station reported.
