Brewers call up former Magnolia Heights standout Cooper Pratt to MLB debut

Milwaukee Brewers have promoted shortstop prospect Cooper Pratt, a former Magnolia Heights School standout, to the major leagues. The team announced the move Tuesday, with Pratt set to make his debut against the Cleveland Guardians.

Pratt, 21, was selected by the Brewers in the sixth round of the 2023 MLB Draft. He has been a top-five prospect within the organization, playing for the AA Biloxi Shuckers and AAA Nashville Sounds. The team posted a video on social media showing Pratt receiving the call during the sixth inning of Nashville’s game Sunday against the Durham Bulls.

According to MLB.com, Pratt is expected to take over as Milwaukee’s regular shortstop, replacing Joey Ortiz, who will share time at third base with David Hamilton. The Brewers listed Pratt as the starting shortstop in an early lineup ahead of Tuesday night’s game at 6:40 p.m. Central Time. At 21 years, 302 days old, Pratt will be the third-youngest player to start at shortstop in the majors this season, behind Konnor Griffin and Kevin McGonigle.

During his time in AAA Nashville, Pratt batted .241 with six home runs, four triples, 32 RBIs, and 17 stolen bases over 58 games. He also played 120 games with Biloxi in 2025, hitting .238 with eight home runs, 22 doubles, 62 RBIs, and 31 stolen bases. The Brewers currently lead the National League Central with a 43-26 record.
