Kosciusko returns experienced core after state championship trip

Kosciusko returns a veteran group after a trip to last season’s state championship, head coach Casey Orr said. The coach, entering his seventh season, said the Whippets have a roster full of players who have been in big games.

“It’s a very talented bunch of young men. A lot of guys have played a lot of football,” Orr said. “They’ve experienced a lot, been in big games at home, big games on the road, played in the state championship last year.”

Seniors who were part of last season’s run said they want another shot. “The end goal is to get a ring. We came up short last year. It’s my senior year,” Kosciusko lineman Rylee Peteet said. “My guys, they know what they’re going to get from me … So, I just ask for effort.”

Players said the expectation starts with daily work. “Don’t skip any reps. Come out here, run and do your job,” Kosciusko defensive lineman Travion Nash said. “I’m taking accountability, though, telling them that.”

Orr said he will judge the season by effort and how fully the team realizes its potential. “Our expectations are the same every year, and that’s to milk every drop of ability and commitment and effort that you can out of your guys,” he said. Kosciusko will open the 2026 season Aug. 21 against Richland, the school announced.
