Magnolia Tribune: Complaining can carry spiritual costs, commentary says
A commentary published on Magnolia Tribune warned that complaining can carry spiritual consequences for Christians, citing passages from the Bible, the article said.
The piece opened with a quotation from Numbers 11:1: “The people complained in the hearing of the Lord about their misfortunes, and when the Lord heard it, his anger was kindled,” the article said, and it cited Numbers 11:4-6 to summarize how Israelites, soon after the Exodus, complained about manna and longed to return to Egypt.
The commentary also pointed to the apostle Paul’s warning in 1 Corinthians 10:9-11, quoting, “We must not put Christ to the test, as some of them did … nor grumble, as some of them did and were destroyed by the Destroyer,” and said those accounts were written “for our instruction.”
The Magnolia Tribune article drew a contemporary lesson, saying believers who lose gratitude risk turning faith into routine and may face consequences similar in nature, if not in scale, to Israel’s 40 years of wandering. It urged readers to remember the cross, look toward heaven and be grateful for spiritual and material provision, the commentary said.
