Miss. agency to offer free seafood HACCP workshop in Biloxi
The Mississippi Department of Marine Resources said it will offer a free Basic Seafood Hazard Analysis & Critical Control Points, or HACCP, workshop Sept. 15-17 in Biloxi. Classes will run 8 a.m.-5 p.m., and the agency said the address will be provided after registration.
MDMR said the three-day course teaches participants how to identify food safety hazards and implement practices to keep seafood safe for consumers. The agency said the workshop is designed for seafood dealers, processors, employees, restaurant workers and others who handle seafood.
The department said the workshop is free for Mississippi residents; out-of-state participants must pay $160. Class size is limited to the first 25 registrants, and refreshments will be provided, MDMR said.
MDMR said participants who successfully complete the course will receive a certificate from the Association of Food and Drug Officials. The department said the Seafood HACCP course was developed by AFDO and the National Seafood HACCP Alliance and meets U.S. Food and Drug Administration training requirements under 21 CFR Part 123.
During the workshop, MDMR said participants will learn to identify food safety hazards; determine critical control points; establish safe operating limits; monitor control points; take corrective action; verify procedures; and maintain required records. For questions or registration, MDMR said to contact the Seafood Technology Bureau at 228-374-5000 or seafood@dmr.ms.gov. MDMR said the workshop is funded by the Mississippi Tidelands Trust Fund Program.
