Navy training jet crashes in Mississippi, two pilots eject safely

Authorities are investigating the crash of a Navy training jet Tuesday afternoon in Noxubee County, Mississippi. The aircraft, a T-45C Goshawk assigned to Training Air Wing One, was on a routine training flight from Naval Air Station Meridian.

Two pilots ejected before the jet went down and are currently being evaluated at a local medical facility, according to a release from the Naval Air Training Command in Meridian. The cause of the crash remains under investigation.

Emergency services and military personnel responded to the scene, which is located on private land near U.S. 45 close to Shuqualak, on the border between Noxubee and Kemper counties. Authorities have asked the public to avoid the area to facilitate emergency response and preserve the crash site for investigators.

This incident marks the second military aircraft crash in Mississippi this month. On May 12, a T-38 Talon II from Columbus Air Force Base crashed in western Alabama. Both pilots in that incident ejected safely, and the Air Force has temporarily halted use of its T-38 fleet as a precaution.
