Ole Miss advances to Lincoln Regional final after weather delay and narrow win over Nebraska
Ole Miss is one win away from reaching the NCAA super regional after defeating Nebraska 6-3 in the Lincoln Regional. The game started Saturday evening but was postponed until Sunday at noon due to lightning and rain, according to officials.
Leading 6-3 going into the final inning, Ole Miss held off a late Nebraska rally. The Cornhuskers threatened in the bottom of the ninth but failed to score after a series of walks and groundouts. Rebel pitcher Hudson Calhoun secured the save by forcing a groundout to end the game, according to the team.
Ole Miss’s Taylor Rabe earned the win, pitching six innings and striking out nine while allowing just one run on four hits. Will Furniss led the Rebels offensively with three hits, and Owen Paino drove in three runs. Hayden Federico also contributed with two hits.
Nebraska struck first with a solo homer from Jett Buck in the fourth inning. The Cornhuskers controlled much of the game until Ole Miss took the lead with a two-run single from Paino in the sixth and another run on a single from Randle. Nebraska loaded the bases in the sixth but was held scoreless by Rabe.
Self-inflicted errors hurt Nebraska in the seventh, leading to two runs for Ole Miss. Buck’s error in the eighth allowed Decker to score from first base, extending the Rebels’ lead to 6-1. Nebraska responded with a two-run homer from Max Buettenback in the bottom of the inning, but the rally fell short after the weather delay.
Nebraska’s Ty Horn pitched 5.2 innings, striking out three and allowing three earned runs. The Huskers will face elimination Sunday against Arizona State, with Ole Miss awaiting the winner in the regional final. The Rebels’ next game is scheduled for 7 p.m. CT, according to team officials.
