Ocasio-Cortez urges northern progressives to ‘pull up’ to South, draws conservative backlash

Rep. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez, D-N.Y., urged northern progressives to “pull up” to Southern states during a May 16 rally in Montgomery, Alabama, and accused the Supreme Court under Chief Justice John Roberts of contributing to “regression and repression in America,” she said at the event.

Speaking at the “All Roads Lead to The South” rally, Ocasio-Cortez said the United States was not a true democracy until the 1960s when the Voting Rights Act was passed. She later wrote on social media, “If you’re not from these states, it’s time to pull up,” calling on people to travel to states including Alabama, Georgia, Louisiana, Tennessee and Mississippi.

Conservatives on social media criticized the call, with many pointing to footage that showed Ocasio-Cortez speaking behind a glass barrier they described as bulletproof. Conservative podcaster Todd Spears posted a reaction video on TikTok that drew roughly 1 million views, mocking her security and questioning what “pull up” would accomplish.

Another TikTok user, Kei Bennett, whose video received more than 800,000 views, warned Ocasio-Cortez’s supporters against following the advice and used hyperbolic language about local dangers. Spears also criticized the remarks in his video’s caption, saying politicians should focus on solving problems rather than dividing Americans.

Ocasio-Cortez’s office did not immediately respond to Fox News Digital’s request for comment, the outlet reported.
