Petersen projected to unseat Nebraska secretary of state Bob Evnen in GOP primary

Omaha businessman Scott Petersen is projected to defeat incumbent Republican Bob Evnen in Nebraska’s Republican primary for secretary of state, Decision Desk HQ reported Tuesday.

Decision Desk HQ showed Petersen leading Evnen by about six percentage points with slightly more than half of votes reported, the outlet said.

Evnen is Nebraska’s current secretary of state and the state’s top elections official. The projection indicates he would lose his position if the results hold, Decision Desk HQ said.

If confirmed, the projected victory would make Petersen the Republican nominee for secretary of state in the November general election, Decision Desk HQ reported.
