Two arrested at South Windsor Costco after alleged fraudulent credit card scheme
Two people were arrested Sunday at a Costco in South Windsor after allegedly trying to use fraudulent credit cards to buy merchandise, the South Windsor Police Department said Monday.
Police identified the suspects as 35-year-old Brittany A. Howard of the Bronx and 34-year-old Kasheem M. Williams of Brooklyn. The department said officers responded about 3 p.m. to the Costco at 1220 Tamarack Ave. for reports of two shoplifters attempting to pay at a self-checkout with fraudulent cards.
Store staff had warned police the same suspects had allegedly attempted a similar scheme at a Costco in Enfield, about a 30-minute drive north, the department said. Officers later found 28 stolen financial documents, each bearing different names, in the suspects’ vehicle, along with goods believed to have been taken from the Enfield store, police said.
Authorities said both suspects had active out-of-state warrants. Williams had an extraditable warrant from Suffolk County, New York, on charges including burglary, strangulation and assault, and Howard had an extraditable warrant from Hudson County, New Jersey, on credit card theft charges, the department said. Both now face additional charges, including 28 counts of payment card theft, larceny, identity theft and conspiracy, and were being held on $250,000 surety bonds pending a scheduled appearance Monday morning in Manchester Superior Court, police said.
