Walnut Voting Location Moved to Community Building
Walnut voters who have not cast a ballot yet should head to the Walnut Community Building. The Town of Walnut announced Tuesday afternoon that the Walnut voting location has moved to the community building for today’s general election, and polls there stay open until 7 p.m.
The town posted the notice on its official Facebook page shortly after 1 p.m. Tuesday, Nov. 3, saying it wanted to make sure everyone knows where to go to vote. In replies to residents, the town page confirmed the polls are open until 7 p.m.
Walnut Voting Location: What to Know Tonight
- Where: Walnut Community Building. The town says voting for Walnut has been moved there.
- When: Polls close at 7 p.m. Anyone who is in line when the polls close is still entitled to vote, so don’t turn around if you see a line.
- Bring a photo ID. Mississippi requires an acceptable photo ID, such as a driver’s license. A voter without one can cast an affidavit ballot but must show ID at the circuit clerk’s office within the following days for the vote to count.
- Not sure of your precinct? Call the Tippah County Circuit Clerk’s office or check the Mississippi Secretary of State’s polling place lookup before you leave home.
If you went to your usual spot earlier and were turned away or confused, there is still time. Poll workers can also help confirm whether you are at the right location. If you are not on the poll book at the community building, ask about casting an affidavit ballot rather than leaving without voting.
What’s on the Ballot in Walnut
Walnut and the rest of Tippah County are voting on federal races and a north Mississippi judicial seat:
- U.S. Senate: Republican incumbent Cindy Hyde-Smith, Democrat Scott Colom and independent Ty Pinkins.
- U.S. House, 1st District: Republican incumbent Trent Kelly, Democrat Cliff Johnson and Libertarian Johnny Baucom.
- Court of Appeals, District 1, Position 1 (special, nonpartisan): Judge John Weddle and Derek Hopson Jr.
Weather and Results
Storms are expected to move into the area Tuesday night, so voters planning to go late may want to leave a little early. Counting begins after polls close at 7 p.m., and unofficial Tippah County results usually come in later in the evening. Tippah News will post local results as they are reported.
