Mississippi Department of Transportation says State Route 25 will be closed both directions March 23 to April 6 for bridge inspection and repair with official detours in place.

The Mississippi Department of Transportation said ramps from U.S. 11 to U.S. 49 South and both directions of U.S. 49 will close nightly from 9 p.m. to 6 a.m. from March 23 to April 24 for railroad trestle repairs.

Forecasters say highs could reach the mid-80s Sunday and break record territory in many areas, with some locations facing record challenges as early as Saturday.

A traffic advisory says both directions of U.S. 49 will have intermittent closures from 7 to 10 a.m. Sunday to allow Entergy crews to pull power lines across the roadway.

Applications for the Student Volunteer program close Friday, March 20, program organizers said. Current students in atmospheric science or related fields are encouraged to apply.

The Mississippi Department of Transportation highlighted Collin Burnham, resident engineer for District 7 in Mendenhall, saying he has spent six years at the agency and oversees projects including Smith County’s first traffic signal and bridge work on State Route 149.

The Office of the State Auditor said residents can email nonprofitwaste@osa.ms.gov to report fraud, waste or abuse of taxpayer funds spent by nonprofits. The office also said its website includes a nonprofit spending dashboard listing recipients and amounts.
