Taquon Garth sentenced to 60 years after pleading guilty in 2021 Tupelo shooting

Tupelo, Miss. — Taquon Garth pleaded guilty May 1 to three manslaughter charges and was sentenced to 60 years in prison, the First Circuit Court District Attorney’s office said Friday.

Circuit Court Judge Kelly Mims accepted the guilty pleas and imposed the maximum sentence of 20 years for each count to be served consecutively in the custody of the Mississippi Department of Corrections, the office said.

The charges stem from a July 24, 2021, shooting that resulted in the deaths of Jessica Pannell, Robben Wilson and Norahs Coleman, the release said. Assistant District Attorney Josh Wise prosecuted the case on behalf of the state, the office said.

The district attorney’s office thanked the Tupelo Police Department and Detective Tyler Cook for their work and expressed recognition and appreciation for the victims’ families, saying their strength and patience have been extraordinary and that the office’s thoughts and prayers remain with them.
