Local artist Annie Simpson Rivers is painting a mural on the future Brown & Covington Building in downtown Ripley, Ripley Main Street said. The project is funded by a grant from the Mississippi Hills National Heritage Area.

Organizers say live music, food trucks and a fireworks show are planned for downtown Ripley tonight, with performances starting at 7 p.m. and fireworks at 9:30 p.m.

The City of Ripley announced a fireworks show Friday, June 26, at 9:30 p.m. to mark the nation’s 250th birthday. The display will be launched near Ripley High School and should be visible from much of southern Ripley, the city said.

Blue Mountain Christian University said crews completed several interior and exterior tasks in its Week 54 update on the Center for Grace & Healing, moving the project closer to serving nursing and health programs.

This week, interns took a break from work to tour the Governor’s Mansion in downtown Jackson, the organization said.

The National Weather Service warned that dangerous heat stress will build over the weekend into next week, with highs in the mid-90s and heat indexes of 105 to 110 degrees, officials said. The Mississippi Emergency Management Agency urged residents to hydrate, wear sunscreen and take breaks.

Officer Clinton L. Franks completed the North Mississippi Law Enforcement Training Course, the City of Booneville said.

The Mississippi Department of Public Safety says all new drivers must complete driver’s education beginning July 1, 2027. The department posted a list of approved instructors at dps.ms.gov.

Forecasters say a marginal (1 of 5) risk of storms will affect portions of northeast Arkansas, the Missouri Bootheel and West Tennessee tomorrow, with damaging wind gusts and heavy downpours the primary hazards.

The National Weather Service in Memphis said a level 2 of 5 Slight Risk will clip extreme northeast Arkansas and the Missouri Bootheel today, with damaging winds and heavy rain the main threats and a small tornado risk embedded.
